Water Management Experimental Centre (WMEC)

Activities related to hydraulic research of water structures have been developed at the Faculty of Civil
Engineering since 1955, when two bases for experimental hydraulic research were established in the Hollar
building on Smetana Embankment. In the 1980s, the construction of a large water laboratory in Building D
of the Faculty was completed.

While hydraulic research has moved more towards the use of mathematical
modelling methods over the years, it would be a mistake to assume that all questions can now be answered
without physical modelling. This still has an indispensable role despite the considerable demands on space
and equipment.

In 2012, the Water Management Experimental Centre, whose main mission is to provide the
specialised departments with facilities for their experimental and teaching activities, was established.
